April 2, 2019

OMAHA, (Neb) April 2, 2019 - It is with heavy heart that Travel and Transport shares the passing of Bill Tech on April 1, 2019 at the age of 70.

Tech joined Travel and Transport in 1987 as a regional vice president in Chicago. In 1992, he moved to Omaha to assume the role of vice president of administration. He was later named executive vice president in 1997, and in 1998 Tech was named president and CEO.

Tech remained CEO until December 2014, stepping down to retire after 27 years of service to Travel and Transport. He remained involved in the company as the chairman of the board. In March 2019, the Travel and Transport board voted unanimously to honor Tech with the title of chairman-emeritus for his many contributions to the company.

During his tenure as CEO, Tech oversaw Travel and Transport’s growth in a number of areas, including key acquisitions, record growth in the five years immediately preceding his announcement to retire, and a nearly 300 percent increase in employees. He also oversaw the complete transfer of ownership to Travel and Transport’s employees — Tech’s proudest achievement with the company.

“Bill was a gracious man who was firmly focused on family and friends and who held an unwavering dedication to the employees of Travel and Transport. For many of us who had the opportunity to work with Bill, there was always a story to be told and a laugh to be shared. “Bill was a man of great determination and unwavering optimism. He will be greatly missed by so many in our industry and within the Travel and Transport family. His legacy and his immense impact on our company will never be forgotten,” stated Tim Fleming, President, Travel and Transport and Chairman of the Board, Radius Travel.

A passionate philanthropist, Tech was also involved with Boys Town, the Knights of Aksarben, the Omaha Sister Cities Association and The Salvation Army. He served on multiple Omaha-area boards, including the boards of the Knights of Aksarben foundation, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and First Westroads Bank. Tech was also involved with the American Cancer Society and a supporter of the Hope Lodge in Omaha where cancer patients and their caregivers can live while receiving treatment. Tech’s incredible positive spirit and love for life throughout his own multiple cancer diagnoses inspired many throughout the community.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Illinois and an MBA in international finance from De Paul University. He was also a CTC and a CTIE.
