When you are booked to speak at an event, you cannot miss your slot. So, getting to the event, and possibly back for another speaking arrangement, is especially time-sensitive.
A traveler of ours was a guest speaker at an event and was booked on two connecting flights to get home. A canceled flight due to bad weather meant that he was going to miss his connection, so Wendy Lillard, Group Travel Manager, M&E at Travel and Transport found a new option. But just minutes after that was booked, that flight was delayed too, as was a third later booking.
Wanting to get the traveler home that day, Wendy tried other airlines. She got the speaker booked onto another carrier, hoping that the disruption due to weather would not get too bad before he started his journey. Wendy booked the new flights and checked him in while he was finishing up his speaking session at the meeting.
“This was all done in a bit of a time crunch as he was trying to make sure he got home that day; he had other speaking engagements the next day,” said Wendy. “We did get him home, thank goodness, at 2:00 a.m. the next morning.”
The self-confessed “neurotic traveler” sent a note to Wendy: “Setting up to board the plane and, though sometimes over-rated, gratitude has its place. You really helped a neurotic traveler get to his home. So, thanks.”
