Graduation ceremony set for Thursday, August 21, 2014

Omaha, NE, August 19, 2014) – For over a year, Travel and Transport has worked closely with Omaha based Metropolitan Community College (MCC) to develop an associate in applied science degree with a focus on corporate travel management.  On August 21, 2014, six students will graduate from Travel and Transport with their Travel Academy certificate.

In response to an ever-growing need to expand the pool of travel professionals located throughout the nation, Travel and Transport worked with MCC to develop an educational opportunity that offers those interested in the travel industry a way to prepare for an entry-level position as a travel counselor. “Travel is an exciting field that has dramatically evolved over the years,” said Jim Winterscheid, Vice President, Human Resources at Travel and Transport. “As an industry, we have seen the growth of travel professionals decline over the years while the need for customer service-oriented individuals with a passion for travel continues to increase. We created this program to help address the need to prepare and educate individuals for a travel-related profession,” stated Winterscheid.

The current graduating class has spent the past 10 months working for their travel certification. Some of the educational classes that the students were required to take included Introduction to Corporate Travel Management, Geography for Travel, Travel Reservation Systems and Travel Operations. The courses were specifically designed to give a full range of educational opportunities surrounding all facets of corporate travel management.

Based on their performance in class, online and through assignments and tests given during the 10-month period, the students were eligible to be interviewed by Travel and Transport for open job positions.  Travel and Transport announced on Tuesday that all six students successfully met their requirements and will be employed with Travel and Transport after graduation.

Travel and Transport also graduated three students in April of 2014. There are currently five students studying onsite at Travel and Transport with an anticipated graduation in November 2014. The organization also has 14 online students who will graduate with their travel certificate in April 2015.

Travel and Transport will be hosting a graduation ceremony for the students on Thursday, August 21st at 11:30 a.m. at Travel and Transport headquarters located at 2120 S. 72nd Street.
