The DFW Business Travel Association recently hosted the annual Texas Education Day in Irving, Texas at the Westin DFW Airport Hotel. This two-day event drew more than 300 participants, which is the largest attendance in Texas Education Day history. The Texas BTA chapters have had an education day consecutively for nearly 20 years, bringing travel professionals and vendors together from all across Texas and Oklahoma for education sessions and networking opportunities. The location of the Texas Education Day changes every year rotating between the various BTA chapter locations throughout Texas. These locations include Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. The Dallas/Fort Worth BTA chapter is comprised of various members from Oklahoma as well.
Travel and Transport and The Parking Spot DFW co-sponsored the lunch portion of the event. A special thanks to Terry Mazurek, Sales Manager with The Parking Spot DFW, and Chris Maguire, Sales Manager with The Parking Spot Austin for their support.
Travel and Transport’s Donna Brokowski, General Manager, served as panel moderator for the “Where Exactly is the Middle?” session. This interactive session focused on how to find common ground in negotiations. Representing the airline, rental car, lodging, and specialty travel markets, these panelists spoke from both a supplier and a buyer aspect.
Guest speakers included Paul Laherty, Vice President, Sales from Data In, Intelligence Out (Diio), Linda Swindling, JD, CSP, former attorney and current contributing author, Will Pinnell, Vice President, Digital & Product Planning at BCD Travel, and Captain Alfred C. Haynes. Captain Haynes is known across the globe as the pilot who crash-landed United Airlines Flight 232 at the Sioux City airport on July 19, 1989. Jon Behner, National Sales Manager for Travel and Transport who attended the Education Day, commented that Captain Haynes captivated everyone in the room and absolutely blew them away with his chilling tale of survival. The valuable information gained through this harrowing ordeal has forever changed the airline industry.
