(Omaha, Neb) On Thursday, April 13th 2017 at 9:00 pm, the Surface Lot and Canopy Lot public parking options at Eppley Airfield will close as the Omaha Airport Authority prepares for construction of a new six- story, 3,000 vehicle parking garage. The new parking garage will be located north of the existing parking garage where the current Surface Lot and rental car facilities are located, necessitating its closure. The new parking garage is designed to incorporate future public parking on levels three through six and rental car operations on the first two levels with a new rental car customer service center adjacent to the new garage.
Construction of the new parking garage is anticipated to begin in May and continue for approximately two years. During construction, rental car operations will be temporarily relocated to the Canopy Lot south of the terminal, which will be closed to public parking. This lot will be equipped with temporary facilities for rental car activities and free shuttle service to and from the terminal. Once construction of the new parking garage is completed, the Canopy Lot will be reopened to public parking.
In preparation of the new parking garage, the Omaha Airport Authority has identified and implemented five service enhancements designed to assist travelers using the existing airport garage and parking lots during construction. The new enhancements include:
- New Smartphone App - flyOMA
- Electronic Roadway Signage
- Parking Guidance/Space Count System
- South Long Term Lot Expansion
- Two Cell Phone Waiting Lots (South and North of Terminal)
Construction of a new garage is one of the initial phases of the Airport’s demand-based 2013 Master Plan, which identified the need for additional close-in parking capacity. The new garage and each parking enhancement focuses on potential travelers’ needs during construction and beyond.
