Travel habits of Americans

September 5, 2014 Mark Dauner

A new survey by Skift revealed the travel habits of Americans, and results showed that 63 percent of adults have not traveled in the last 12 months. According to the source, only 37.6 percent of Americans traveled last year, but that number could be even lower when considering the individuals who are not on the Internet or the population under the age of 18.

These numbers also accounted for those who went out on business travel, so the results showed that companies aren’t sending their employees on trips either.

The age group that traveled the most were individuals between 35 and 44, of which 58 percent went on leisure or business travel in the past 12 months, according to Skift. Elderly adults age 65 and older traveled the least at 51 percent and 53 percent of young adults between the ages of 25 and 34 only traveled in the last year.

Skift’s survey also found that nearly 80 percent of American adults have not gone on an international vacation in the last 12 months. Only 13 percent have visited an international destination and 8 percent said that they have traveled internationally, but it was more than one year ago.
