If you ask Marlin and Shirley Klonglan to describe their favorite trip with Travel and Transport Vacations, they will ask, “Which one?”
Recently, the Klonglans took a Pacific Northwest cruise from Vancouver, British Columbia down the West Coast. While cruising was not new to them, seeing the American Northwest by sea was. “We really enjoyed all our stops and would recommend this cruise itinerary to anyone,” says Shirley. “It was a 10-day Princess cruise and we loved every second of it.”
Highlights of the Klonglans’ Pacific Northwest Cruise Vacation
The Klonglans’ Pacific Northwest cruise adventure began in Vancouver, British Columbia. While the rain made it difficult to get out and see all they wanted to, it did not put a damper on their spirits.
“We walked around the boardwalk and saw what we could of the city,” says Shirley. “It’s a gorgeous place.”
After embarking on their Princess Cruise Line ship, they settled into their balcony room near the back of the ship.
“We love at-sea days,” says Marlin. “On our Pacific Northwest cruise, we were lucky enough to see some of the whales. We had to slow down for some of them, which was fine. It was unbelievable; we could see them from our balcony.”
Other onboard highlights included the entertainment.
“A comedian on our ship was someone we had seen perform when we cruised the Caribbean,” says Marlin. “He is involved in an entertainment center within driving distance of our home in Iowa. We saw him perform and when we approached him, he remembered us, which made the cruise a little bit more fun.”
Cruising isn’t only about at-sea days, of course. Like many other cruisers, the Klonglans enjoy visiting ports of call as well. On their Pacific Northwest cruise, those ports included:
“Seeing the USS Iowa battleship was a highlight as was touring San Diego,” says Shirley. “We took a city tour in San Francisco that was very interesting as well.”
Why Marlin and Shirley Love Cruising Through Travel and Transport
Residents of Iowa, Marlin and Shirley Klonglan spend most of their days land-locked. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why cruising appeals to them. Since 1981, they’ve been booking cruises and vacations through their Travel and Transport Vacations advisor, Barb Weigel.
“The first vacation we booked through Barb was a trip to Hawaii. Since then, we’ve booked a Tahiti cruise, an Alaskan cruise and a number of Caribbean cruises,” says Marlin. “Now, we wouldn’t even think about doing any travel without Barb’s help. She does it all. We tell her what we want and she is fantastic in taking care of us.”
“She’s like family to us,” adds Shirley. “One time, coming back from Tahiti, we experienced a plane delay in Los Angeles. The airlines left a message for our daughter on a Sunday night. She called Barb and that night, Barb took care of everything. When we got off the plane, Barb told us exactly what to do and where to go. She goes above and beyond.”
Once, when an unexpected heart procedure interrupted a cruise the Klonglans had planned, Barb worked quickly to take care of all the insurance paperwork.
“We took the papers to the doctors and she took care of everything else,” recalls Marlin. “She doesn’t push travel insurance or anything, but she did suggest it and boy are we glad we had it. Barb got us all our money back, which would have been a lot of dollars out of our pocket.”
Already Planning Their Next Adventure
In addition to having wonderful vacation experiences, the Klonglans look forward to their post-trip conversations with Barb.
“She always wants to know, when we’re home, anything we did at ports of call to pass on to future clients. She does that with everyone, and we benefit from it too,” says Shirley. “We already have our next cruise booked.”
